I slowly woke up this morning and the grey weather that San Francisco is known for has arrived. I know I am lucky to call California my home – as it is snowing many other places, however I grew up in sunny San Diego. After 3 years in SF I have accepted the gloomy days, and what better to do then relax at home with a nice cup of joe?
I like making coffee at home, especially on the weekends. It allows me be productive (write this blog) while I prepare a quick and delicious drink. I also prefer having a meal with my coffee, not having a coffee with more calories than a meal. Some of those fancy drinks at your local coffee shop can run over 600 calories! No thank you …
When I sweeten my coffee and lattes I prefer agave nectar or turbinado sugar (raw cane). I use roughly 1 spoonful of sweetener. I often have my coffee black, but when I do add milk/cream I opt for non-fat or low-fat milk. Please … stay AWAY from artificial creamers – their 1st ingredient is usually sugar or oil!! Oil in your coffee? I know you might enjoy that specific taste, but invest in nice coffee beans and you won’t rely on artificial flavors as much. Don’t want to lose that spice? Try adding cinnamon and nutmeg to your drink …. delicious! (and perfect for the holiday season!) Sprinkle a little on top of your latte and you will feel like you are in the coffee shop down the street.
At home I make my coffee with a French press. It is simple and delicious. The coffee is perfect within minutes! I use a Bodum press. I have for years – great company and great product. The one pictured was about $25.
